Madison County Motivators SA Group Promotes Leadership

Madison County Motivator’s Ted Nicholson has been promoting leadership as an individual and as a member of MCM for more than 25 years.

Ted has been a member of the MCM since the late 1990s and has served as a member, vice president and president over the years. He currently serves as a co-president/vice president alongside Casey Brown.

Ted has also been a member of the advocacy group, Heritage Farm Motivators, at HeritageFarm for 15 years. He has served as Vice President and is currently the Treasurer

Ted continually promotes self-advocacy. His love of helping others shows in everything hedoes. He is always ready to share his knowledge, experiences and thoughts. Whether Ted is at home, with friends, at work, participating in Special Olympics, or out in the community, he is always ready to help friends, family and people he meets.

In the fall of 2025, Ted was chosen to be a member of the CNY Regional Leadership team for NYS Special Olympics. He will be bringing a great deal of his advocacy knowledge to this leadership group. One of Ted’s goals is to be able to collaborate between his two self-advocacy groups and Special Olympics to help encourage members/athletes to promote advocacy for themselves and others.

One of Ted’s personal accomplishments is his photography. Ted started out with a new hobby of taking pictures about 6 years ago while being mentored by a Cazenovia College student. His pictures are of all different genres (people, animals, nature, events, etc) but favors parks and zoos. Ted has had his pictures displayed at various libraries, including his second show at the Canastota Public Library on April 30.
Ted is a great source of information and ideas that reflect the needs of family, friends and community. He is a dedicated and caring self-advocate and friend who is always willing tobe there for others.

Besides self-advocacy, Ted works in the Dining Hall at Colgate University. He is involved in staying healthy and working out at the local YMCA, volunteers at Great Swamp Conservancy, Trees for Troops and Special Olympics fundraising. Ted competes in Special Olympics snowshoeing, volleyball, track/field and bocce.
