Hi, my name is Amanda. I came into my self-advocacy group last Spring. Self-advocacy means to me that I advocate for others and myself. I advocated at Legislative Day in Albany to have more supportive housing in New York State. Also, I advocated to my staff where I used to live to move into a supportive apartment. Now, I work at HARC Business Park, but I am trying to get a job in the community. This year, I went with the self-advocacy group to educate students about people with disabilities. In closing, I will say that self-advocacy is important to me because I am helping to make changes for myself and for others. |
