| Hi, my name is Brian and I would like to share my story of self- advocacy. I joined my self advocacy group many years ago. I have been given the chance to speak for myself and others at legislative days, through a NYSARC self-advocacy group, informative skits and at conferences. My advocacy skills have also served me well as a member of the HARC Board of Directors.Self advocacy has also helped me in my quest to live a more independent lifestyle. I value my independence and I’m preparing to live on my own one day. That’s why I advocated to live in a supportive apartment setting. That’s why Self advocacy is important to me because it gives me the opportunity to speak for myself, for others and to bring to light important issues.
